Regional supply chains as studied in Germany: Blue Energy - Marine microbial organisms and communities are highly efficient primary producers and are well known for their high energy content (structural sugars and lipids). Cyanobacteria, algae and seawead are ideal condidates to be integrated into the conversion of biomass to different forms of renewable energies. Focussing tidal ecosystems in the southern North Sea (East Frisian Waddensea), enercoast studies (i) conditions and limitations of a future sustainable use of microbial biomass produced within the natural environment and (ii) technical options within the conversion process. This is done in close collaboration with the Danish partners in the Midtjylland region.
